Johnson Vineyard Company provides vineyard management services that support every aspect of a successful vineyard.

Ranging from site planning & financial projections, to vineyard planting and daily ongoing operations to business administration. We are focused on long-term returns for our clients every step of the way.

Vineyard Design & Installation

  • • Matching ideal rootstock and variety to ideal vine spacing and orientation based on water & soil analysis, weather patterns, slope, sun pattern and the type of grape buyer we are marketing toward, just to name a few.
  • • Clear, accurate financial projections based on 40+ years of experience.
  • • Oversight of land prep, soil amendments, irrigation installation, trellis supply, nursery orders and labor contractors for successful planting.
  • • Ensure that vines are planted properly and according to plan.

Ongoing Daily Operations

  • • Administer the business including payroll, bookkeeping and financial reports, human resources, insurances, government reporting, etc.
  • • Skillfully farm the vineyard, including viticultural decisions, pest management, irrigation analysis, crew management and equipment

Crop Sales & Marketing

    • • Crop sales range from boutiques such as Passagno winery to multinational wineres like Zonstellation, Wine Group, and Bogle.
    • • Vineyard branding for high end markets

  • La Estancia Vineyard
  • Planted in 1973 and replanted between 2006-2010, this vineyard produces Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.

  • Harkins Vineyard
  • Planted in 1979, this vineyard has white riesling in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.

  • Central Avenue Vineyard
  • Planted in the mid 1990’s, this vineyard is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Merlot in the Monterey AVA between Greenfield and King City.

Paul Johnson

who we are

Johnson Vineyard Company is owned and operated by Paul Johnson. Paul learned to manage vineyards from his father, Phil Johnson, who planted the first commercial vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands in 1973 and later started Lockwood Vineyard winery. In addition to working the family business, Paul has the following experience:

  • BA in Communication from UC Santa Barbara
  • 5+ years of Agricultural Lending Experience
  • Graduate of California Ag Leadership Program
  • President of the Montrey County Vintner's & Growers Association (2013)
  • Board member for California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG)
